Commercial Evaporative Coolers

Commercial Evaporative Coolers

Have you considered using commercial evaporative coolers for your space? Premier Industries, Inc. builds these coolers to last. They do not use the heavy C-channel frame or vibration isolation system of our industrial models. Instead, the commercial swamp cooler offers a lighter and more economical solution for your cooling needs.

As a proud local business since 1983, we know that business owners always look for ways to cut costs and boost efficiency. Therefore, our commercial and industrial evaporative systems come with many useful features. Below are some key features:

  • Stainless steel construction
  • High efficiency 12” rigid cooling media
  • Models up to 16,000 CFM (actual air delivered)
  • Selected accessories available
  • 18- to 25-inch forward curve blowers
  • 1.5 to 15 HP motors (depending on CFM rating and static pressure)
  • Side discharge configuration only
  • 10-year rust-through warranty (a Premier Industries, Inc. exclusive)

The fan section also offers these benefits:

  • Housing: We use stainless steel grade 304, 18g for both wet and dry sections. Special hat sections form the cabinet bottom and support the blower/motor.
  • Access panel: A full-height removable panel gives easy access to the fan housing and the discharge side. In addition, the top of the wet section can be removed for pad replacement.
  • Blower: Our industrial grade blowers run in horizontal (rear) discharge mode.
  • Motor: We install heavy duty, industrial-grade, open-face, drip-proof motors that meet strict requirements.

Meanwhile, the wet section provides quality cooling media and water distribution systems. Moreover, the electrical controls include a fused disconnect with a manual on/off switch, a magnetic starter with thermal overload strips, and a pump contactor. You can also add remote controls (thermostat or manual switching) if desired.

How Commercial Evaporative Coolers Work

Evaporative coolers now serve as a popular alternative to refrigerant-based air conditioning. They work well in hot, dry climates. First, these systems evaporate a liquid. Then the liquid turns to gas and absorbs heat. This process cools the air.

Next, the unit controls the cooling to a specific area. Some homes use direct evaporative units. In these units, a pump circulates water from a tank to saturate a coolant pad. Then a fan pulls outside air through the wet pad, which triggers evaporation. As a result, cool, humid air spreads throughout the home. There are three main types of evaporative units: downdraft, side draft, and portable systems.

Types of Evaporative Coolers

Portable coolers cool small spaces. They need no ductwork or professional installation. In fact, many portable coolers come with wheels so you can move them easily. Also, side draft units blow air directly into a home from the side. They install in a window or wall and usually do not require ductwork, although professional help may improve installation. Meanwhile, downdraft systems mount on the roof. They use ductwork to cool an entire home. Although downdraft units cost more and need careful maintenance, they deliver excellent cooling.

Installation of Commercial Evaporative Coolers

Most commercial evaporative coolers use direct evaporation. They often look like a plastic or metal box with vents on the sides. You can mount these units on the roof, walls, or windows. Just ensure they have a vent for airflow.

Common installations include cooling towers, misting systems, and misting fans. Cooling towers use evaporation to cool water instead of air. They often appear on industrial sites or large buildings. In addition, they move heat outside after cooling the air.

Misting systems use a high-pressure pump to force water through tubing and a small-nozzle stainless steel outlet. This nozzle produces a fine mist that evaporates quickly. As a result, the surrounding temperature drops by up to 35°F in seconds. These systems cool pets, livestock, greenhouses, veterinary clinics, and even produce storage areas.

Misting fans work like humidifiers. A fan releases a fine mist that evaporates and cools the air. Therefore, they work well both indoors and outdoors.

Evaporative Cooler Repair

Regular maintenance is key for these systems. Commercial evaporative coolers need cleaning and occasional repairs. You must clean or replace the cooler pads often. This prevents odors and protects indoor air quality.

Debris like sediments and minerals build up quickly. You should clean them out at least once each season, and often once a month. Otherwise, the unit may break down. If your cooler is mounted on the roof, cleaning can be inconvenient. In that case, call a professional. Also, if sediments cause a breakdown, expert repair is needed.

Choosing Commercial Evaporative Coolers

Many evaporative coolers cost less to install and run than full refrigerant systems. In addition, they offer other benefits. You can cool a single room or an entire building.
